Celebrating World Book Day!

Yay - Another day for negotiating dress up costumes with our little people!

Trying to convince our eldest to not wear her princess dress to school has actually not been too tricky this time, she's all set to go as Ada Twist Scientist!

It's got us thinking about what attracts our kids to a book or TV show and 100% it's about representation. They're drawn to characters that look like them, but are there enough??

It's definitely getting better, we've seen an increase of characters of colour from 1% in 2017 to 14% in 2023, thanks to brilliant authors such as Laura Henry-Allain (the creator of Jo Jo and Gran Gran) who have brought beautiful children's characters that reflect the realities of more British children to our mainstream.

But of course, there's always more to be done! It's inspired us to make sure that at the birthday parties we attend this year we give the gift of literature and make sure we are actively supporting a world where more children can be seen and represented. That's our starting point of action anyway, what will yours be?
